Two ships passing in the night…

I define a team as a group of two or more people. Purpose-driven teams have this constant energy source that drives them to elevate their performance and give more of themselves.

Laura and I moved to upstate New York for my corporate career in 2000.

  • In 2006, our kids were two and four. We were both working hard but we felt a lack of inspiration and purpose. I couldn’t help but think that we were two ships passing in the night, focused on our daily routines but missing out on what mattered.
  • It was during this time of reflection that we realized we wanted to create something meaningful together.

This realization sparked the idea to start a business that would help make people’s lives better.

  • We wanted to build something useful that connected with our community and brought joy to others.
  • Our goal was not just to earn money, but to inspire and empower those around us.
  • By focusing on this purpose, we found renewed motivation and excitement. We knew that we could make a positive impact while growing as individuals and as a family.

Personal Credo

As life partners, Laura and I are aligned through our values and a common purpose. Like many business-owner couples, the alignment of values and purpose carries over between home and business.

  • Strong partnerships grow when people share the same values and talk often.

That alignment starts with knowing your values and your own individual calling: Why were you born? What are you willing to die for?

I use Calling Cards to help articulate “the Calling” that combines my gifts, passions and values. I combined my core values with my calling to create my personal credo.

Core Values + Calling = Personal Credo

My Credo is: Advance FREEDOM by loving my FAMILY and making choices that will improve physical, emotional and financial HEALTH so that I can FACILITATE CHANGE for myself and others through INTEGRITY and LEADERSHIP.

Twice a day (around the time I do my transcendental meditation – TM) the Credo pops up as a reminder on my calendar and my watch.

  • I read it.
  • I reflect on it.
  • And I make course corrections to stay aligned.

Now it’s your turn.

Combine your top values and your sense of purpose to create a personal Credo. This can be a meaningful guide for how you show up in the world.

  1. Start with Values Cards
  2. Find your Calling

What’s next: Work on the combining the two into a Personal Credo. This exercise is most effective and the most fun when it’s done with a loved one or trusted colleague or a coach.
